Roswell BSBL Pirates

Georgia's premier travel baseball program in Roswell, GA. Founded by Matt Capps (former MLB closer). Tiered travel teams (Black/Yellow/White) from 8U–17U with multiple squads per age group. Softball division (SBL Pirates Fastpitch) launched 2026. Coaching staff includes Dan Uggla (5x MLB All-Star) and Rick Eckstein (USA Baseball 18U National Team Head Coach).

“We’ve experienced a few other travel orgs in north Atlanta and we have fallen in love with BSBL. They truly care about continuity and player development. I saw dramatic improvement in my son over the past year. I direct that back to the coaches and the attitude that was instilled to want to get better by having fun. The only reason for not posting all 5 stars is the city of Roswell could invest money to improve the fields and facilities at RAP and Hembree. It should be noted that’s not a knock at BSBL - directly to the city. ”

“BSBL is great if your coach is great. We have been with the org for a few years, and I would say that your experience will vary greatly depending on your head coach. We have friends who have had miserable experiences while we have had only good experiences. It all comes down to that head coach. Some are much better coaches than others. Communication with the org leadership can be iffy at best, and a lot of the communicating gets pushed down to the coaches, so it can become a game of telephone. The org is run by a former MLB player who doesn't do much with the younger teams (can't speak to his involvement with the older teams), and a lot of the coaches played in college and various levels of major league baseball. There definitely is no daddy ball because there are almost no parent-coaches in the organization. The ones I have encountered over the years with my son are incredibly fair at practices. Coaches are paid, and most seem to be fairly young and cool, so the boys really take to them. We do like the academy style practices, but be aware pitchers get almost no practice. Despite the organization being run by a World Series winning pitcher, pitching is a universal weakness for BSBL at every age. We have friends in a few different age groups, and this is definitely the biggest common complaint about the organization. I can't recall any specific pitching work being done at academy practices and very rarely at team practices. If your kid is a pitcher you will need to spend the money for private coaching. What makes BSBL great are the families. Most of the players came out of Roswell Rec, so they have established friendships already. It is a fun group of people who take baseball seriously but not themselves. We love the parents on our team, and I think the community atmosphere of BSBL is what really makes the organization worth it. It is pricier than a few of the other local organizations, but it is because you are paying a fee to the city of Roswell as well as BSBL; however, that is what guarantees field time, city support, etc. It is worth the extra price when you are comparing.”
